FOXBORO (CBS) – Dozens of volunteers participated in a packing party Sunday in Foxboro, putting together 500 care packages for soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“They love it,” said Lauren Eliopoulous, founder of Hero Helpers. “We get cards back from them. We get pictures. They are so grateful. This is really, really important. It’s like opening a package on Christmas Day.”
The packages contain many basic necessities such as razors, baby wipes, chap sticks and other toiletries. There’s also room for treats such as beef jerky, granola bars and protein bars. Among the other handy items being sent are car air fresheners, which soldiers use to make the less-than-fragrant rooms where they bunk a little more tolerable.
